24th ANNUAL Decatur Celebration:

The Most Exciting Family Street Festival in the Midwest!

Decatur Celebration is the largest free family street festival in Illinois. It features national entertainment with more than 70 one-of-a-kind food items; 100 arts and crafts vendors; 40 commercial vendors; dozens of street attractions; and 11 show stages, all centered in 22 city blocks of downtown Decatur, Illinois. The Celebration, marking its 24th year, is a true kaleidoscope of family fun and entertainment, appealing to all ages. Catering to the youngest, “Kids Block”, is a children’s festival within a festival. The Tinsley Super Carnival stages over 20 rides entertaining everyone from the little ones to the big ones who dare. The entertainment mix satisfies every type of musical taste from ethnic to jazz, pop to Cajun, blues to oldies and classical to country. This year, the festival will entertain its guests with big name entertainment . . . 100 street and stage attractions all FREE! The RK Dixon’s Razzle Dazzle Goodtimes Parade is considered to be one of the most exciting parades in the Midwest. It is filled with unique marching units, floats, and bands giving its audience a fun time. It’s also the only parade in downstate Illinois to be televised live! In the Celebration’s first year, the event was nominated for an award by the State of Illinois Office of Tourism. It also was selected as one of the “Top 100 Events in North America” by the American Bus Association in 1991 … and is the only festival in the world with a dress code: no shirt, no shoes, no service. The theme for this year’s festival is “Welcome Home Mr. Lincoln.” The event starts Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 9, 2009, and promises to attract some 300,000 people in downtown Decatur.
