Hey Decatur!

Preparations are currently underway for the 34th annual Decatur Celebration that will take place August 2, 3 and 4. Our goal is to make this year’s festival even bigger and better than last year and we’re successfully working with our community partners to make that happen.

As you may know, the Decatur Celebration has changed drastically since the first festival in 1986 and has boasted estimated attendance numbers that were difficult to validate. Finally, after fencing the festival perimeter and implementing the admission wristbands, we now know how many people are attending the weekend festival and we’re excited to share that over 30,000 people attended last year’s street festival! This reflects the number of purchased weekend passes but does not include festival attendees under the age of 12.

We are still tweaking the right formula to increase attendee numbers and revenues so that we can continue to produce the kind of event our community deserves.

As a board of directors, we are tasked with overseeing the activities of the organization and ensuring that it is financially sound. We spend an incredible amount of time discussing cost saving measures and brainstorming on possibilities to increase revenues. Each year a financial audit is administered. Like every non-profit organization, we adhere to standard accounting practices. With a lot of work and diligence on the part of the staff and board of directors, we continue to receive a clean audit. It’s important to note that a comprehensive audit cannot be completed until the close of the organization’s fiscal year. The Decatur Celebration’s fiscal year ends on October 31 which is also the final day of the Haunted House, another Decatur Celebration event.

Good news for 2019! There will be no increase to the cost of wristbands. You will still be able to purchase a weekend wristband for $10 in advance. Remember, kids 12 and under are free!

We continue to make community and sponsor contentment a priority and look forward to continuing our tradition of having one of the largest street festivals and most engaged volunteer force in Central Illinois. Stay connected with us on the Decatur Celebration Facebook page where we’ll share more updates for #DC19.

Ciao for now!

It’s Time to Crown Miss Illinois Festival at Celebration!

Sunday, August 4 | Decatur Civic Center | 2PM

Decatur Celebration hosts the Miss Illinois Festival Pageant. The pageant serves as a wonderful opportunity for young women to gain skills in public speaking, interviewing, and being comfortable in front of an audience.

The pageant awards prizes donated by local businesses. The new queen will spend her year making appearances throughout Macon County, the State of Illinois, and will be the official hostess of the 2019 Decatur Celebration.

There are four age divisions for young ladies to participate in:

Miss Illinois Festival Queen – Ages 17 to 22
Illinois Festival Junior Miss – Ages 14 to 16
Illinois Festival Pre Teen – Ages 10 to 13
Illinois Festival Princesses – 5 to 9 (Every princess wins, there is no competition)
